Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about commissioning a painting, if however your specific query is not displayed please contact me direct

Do you paint portraits from photographs?

Yes, If you are local to me in East Sussex I prefer to meet and photograph the subject personally but  where this is not possible I am quite happy to work from your photographs, these need to be as clear and close up as possible if for animal portraits.

If you need help and tips for taking suitable photographs of your pet please Click here or contact me  and I will send you a helpful instruction leaflet by e-mail.

If the portrait is a surprise gift or of a deceased pet, simply provide whatever photographs you have available, send your picture/s to me by e-mail ( info@pettpaintings.com)  and I will be able to judge their suitability and advise on any further information needed to produce the best portrait.

How long will my painting take to complete?

I aim to complete all commissions within four weeks of your order, however at busy times I operate a waiting list system and generally work on first come first served basis I will provide an estimated time scale  when I respond to your inquiry.

(If your commission is for an oil painting you will need to allow extra time for drying before shipment)

Christmas gift orders are commenced in September to allow for extra workload.                                                I will always try to achieve the timescale discussed when ordering your painting especially where the picture is for a gift  but due to the individual nature of a painting  these times are only a guide.

If you have left ordering too late for a special occasion please inquire about my gift certificates which can be purchased towards a portrait in multiples of £10 up to your chosen value

How  and when do I pay for my painting?

Payments can be made by personal cheque, Pay pal or COD if local.

A 20% non refundable deposit is required with your initial instruction in order to secure your place in my work schedule and to cover the cost of materials used.

When your painting is complete I will either post a picture of it on my website or e-mail it to you direct for  your approval only then do you need to complete your payment, I will dispatch your painting on receipt of the remaining balance.

What If I don't like it?

All my work is fully guaranteed, and if the result is not what you expected you are not obliged to complete the purchase.

However I aim to keep you informed about the progress of the painting during each stage and would always do my best to resolve any problems to your satisfaction before the picture is finally completed.

In the unlikely event of you not wishing to complete the purchase for any reason your initial 20% deposit is non returnable due to the cost of materials used in the process.

What about framing?

Wherever possible your painting will be supplied  ready mounted/matted to fit a standard frame size allowing for DIY framing in a suitable "off the peg" frame.

However I recommend that you deliver your painting to a professional framer soon after receipt as it is  very easy to damage a painting during the framing process and a good framer will use The correct acid free materials that ensure  your painting  remains in good condition for many decades.

If you prefer I can send your painting ready framed in a simple suitable moulding at an extra cost of around £30 however this option will  also incur considerable extra shipping costs (about £30 ) meaning that  I can only quote for this service on an individual basis and only to clients within the UK.
